What is intercession? Intercession is the act of intervening on behalf of another. Many believers struggle to find time to pray, and when they do pray, they may only pray for themselves and their own situations. God requires more of us. He is calling The Church back to intercession. God wants us to build intimacy with Him and then stand in the gap for one another. God understands that you have many things going on in your life, but He is calling you to lay all of that aside and intercede for someone else.
Intercessors are often overlooked and rarely acknowledged, but intercession is such a critical role to the health, strength, and protection of the church. Think about what would happen if no one was praying for your family, your church, your city, or your nation? Imagine, if you will, what happens every time an intercessor is out of place.
Intercession not only encourages and equips the one receiving prayer, but intercession also produces purpose for all involved. Whenever we are intimate with the Father we will always produce. The more we seek God, the more He will reveal His plans and purpose for our lives.
Romans 8:26-27 (NIV) reads in the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
Intimate intercession will always produce purpose by…
Many times, we have no idea what to pray for others, but that is when Holy Spirit steps in and leads us. When we pray in the Spirit and avail ourselves to Him, He will do all of the work.
As we are interceding for others, Holy Spirit is searching our own hearts. The amazing thing is that in those times of intimate intercession He is doing the work simultaneously in all of the individuals involved. Seeing that Holy Spirit is God and knows the will of God, He does what God wants done and not what we think should be done.
As Holy Spirit helps, leads, and searches us, He will reveal the purpose for our lives one step at a time. This is the season to seek God like never before, cultivate times of intimacy with Him, and as a result, produce purpose in your life.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for inviting me to have an intimate relationship with you. I am grateful that you trust me to seek you and then intercede for others. I believe that as I enter into deep levels of intercession for others, you will make my purpose clearer to me. In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen.
