Then the Lord replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
Habakkuk 2:2-3 NIV
It can be very difficult when you know that God made you a promise, but you feel stuck waiting. Habakkuk 2:2-3 walk us through how to protect our promise during the process. Check out these tips below:
Write it Out
Take time to write out your promise (i.e. plan, goal, idea) as clearly and as detailed as possible. Do not rush through this step. It may take you a while. Spend time in prayer asking for clarity and then write down what you received. Keep revisiting what you have written down over time. You never know when the exact moment will come for you to give birth so you want to be prepared with a well-written plan. The plan will mature and transform over time, as it should, be willing to let it evolve as it develops. Your task is to protect your promise without hindering it.
Weigh it Out
As you write out the promise, begin to weigh it out. Set aside time to carefully evaluate what it will take to birth and sustain this promise. Trust that God will do His part throughout the entire process, but you have a role to play as well. Weigh out what it will take for you to accomplish your part. In addition, weigh out the appropriate time to share the details of your promise with others. A vital part of protecting your promise is discerning who needs to know about the promise. Prayerfully consider who needs to be involved and who does not. Your task is to protect your promise by avoiding unnecessary complications.
Wait it Out
You will get tired and you may want to quit, but wait it out. It could truly take longer than you anticipated for your promise to be fulfilled, but it will happen. As you wait, keep praying, keep working on the plan, and keep believing. The promise is unfolding beautifully, but you may not ‘see’ it. Your task is to protect your promise without giving up hope.
