3 Things to Monitor While You Wait on Your Promise from God

If you are like most of us, then you are probably waiting on a promise from God right now. God has so many great and wonderful things in store for each of us, but the reality is that there is often a period of waiting that proceeds the promise. It would be so nice if we could say just wait three months and then you will have your promise! We know that it does not work that way. The truth is that none of us know the exact appointed time of our promise.

We would love for it to be a few days or a few months, but it can be years. Have you been waiting for years for your promise? It is not easy. It is not fun, but it will be worth it. In fact, remind yourself every day that it will be worth it when you receive your promise.

It can be very disheartening to keep waiting and waiting on the promise to be fulfilled. Especially when you see those around you receiving their promises. The devil waits on those vulnerable moments, when you feel like it may never happen, and then he jumps in with discouraging lies to cause you to give up and quit. DO NOT allow him to discourage you! Hold on to what God told/showed you.

While you wait on your promise, here are three things that you should constantly monitor:

If you have ever just sat and thought yourself into a panic, then you know how troublesome the mind can be. If we are not careful the mind can cause us to stress and get off course. If you are going to receive your promise from God, then you have to monitor your mind.

Romans 12:2 (NLT) reads …but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think… When you monitor your mind, you can quickly catch thoughts that are discouraging, negative, or untrue. If your promise (goal) is to be a television producer, then you have to monitor every thought that would suggest that it will never happen or that you are not qualified. If God said it, then you will receive that promise!

When was the last time that you spoke negativity over your own life? You know, when you say things like, “I never have any money…” “That person makes me sick…” or “I never win anything…”. If you are going to receive your promise from God, then you have to monitor your mouth.

Matthew 15:11 (NLT) says “it’s not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.” When you monitor your mouth, you do not allow yourself to say anything that will defile your atmosphere. When you speak negativity over your own life, you just leave more room for the devil to work. In fact, unknowingly you just lend him a helping hand to rob you of your promise. If your promise (goal) is to start your own business and you keep saying things like I cannot afford to start a business, then you will not be able to. You have to speak that the money you need is quickly coming from somewhere. If God said it, then you will receive that promise!

Motives (Heart)-

The heart is a very powerful thing. Your motives (what drives you…what motivates you…your secret thoughts) all reside in your heart. You have to be real with yourself, examine your heart, and determine why you want this promise. Do you want this promise because it will make you famous/popular, because other people have it, or because God says that it is His Will for your life? If you are going to receive your promise from God, then you have to monitor your motives.

Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) reads guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. When you monitor your motives, you get really clear about what you are asking God for and why. If your promise (goal) is to become a recording artist, spend some time digging deep to determine why you desire that. Do you want that, so that you can glorify God with your gift? If God said it, then you will receive that promise!

As you wait on God for your promise, remember to monitor your mind, your mouth, and your motives. Before you know it, that promise will be fulfilled in your life! We are praying with you!
