3 Ways to Tell if that Great Idea is a God Idea

Do you have a really great idea right now? Is there something really big that you are working on? Perhaps, the idea is so big or so great that you can’t even share it with many people. Ideas such as these can be very exciting, but it can still be a little scary.

It can be scary because you want to live out God’s Will for your life, so you know that you can’t just commit to doing anything. Great ideas are great, but if they are not God ideas then you are still missing a major ingredient. There are many people who have great ideas and do great things, but that’s not enough. God is calling you and I to live out His ideas; not just great ideas.

As you move forward with that idea, here are 3 ways to tell if it is a great idea or a God idea:

1. What will it take to bring the idea to life?

Great Ideas- Great ideas often require very little help or resources needed from others. The individual can probably bring it to life all on his/her own.

God Ideas- God ideas often seem massive and scary because they require so much more than the individual has to give. He/she knows that they could never make it happen on their own. In most cases, the individual does not have the resources (people or finances) to bring it to life. God makes sure that the one(s) with the idea rely heavily on Philippians 4:19 (NLT) And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

2. Who will reap the benefits of the idea?

Great Ideas- Great ideas often yield huge benefits for the individuals who thought of the idea. It may impact others in a positive way, but the initial purpose was to benefit the individuals who came up with the idea.

God Ideas- God ideas often have very little to do with the individuals who are spearheading it. In most cases, if it is a God idea, the initial purpose is on others reaping the benefits and/or being blessed by the idea. Proverbs 11:25 MSG reads the one who blesses others is abundantly blessed; those who help others are helped.

NOTE: Individuals who are obedient to God and carry out His ideas will reap great benefits and be blessed, but that is a by-product of obedience and not necessarily an indicator of a great idea as described above.

3. Who gets the recognition from the idea?

Great Ideas- When great ideas are a success, the individual who had the idea often gets the recognition or the honor. They are often referred to as ‘self-made’. He/she is celebrated and applauded for his/her great efforts.

God Ideas- God ideas give all of the glory to God! The individuals with the idea ensure that they do not take any of the credit or recognition, but point it all back to God. They realize that without Him, none of it would be possible. 1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT …or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

We are praying with you and for you today that the idea you have is indeed a God idea! If you have discovered that maybe your idea is a great idea and not a God idea, just pray and surrender that idea to Him. If you truly turn it over to Him and let Him lead you, He will give you an idea that you are graced to carry out, one that will bless many people, and one that result in Him getting all of the glory! Trust us, when you receive a God idea, it will be mind blowing and life changing!
